The mission of Norman Studios Silent Film Museum, Inc. (NSSFM) is to preserve, present and promote the history of silent movies and race films in Northeast Florida on the landmark campus of Eagle Film City/Norman Studios.
Fulfilling the NSSFM’s mission depends on members, volunteers, and donors recognizing the significance of the Norman Studios complex and embracing its varied and unique history. Housed in the last remaining studios complex (Eagle Film City) that was built when Jacksonville was considered the Winter Film Capital of the World (1908-1918), the five building Norman Studios complex survives in Jacksonville’s Old Arlington neighborhood. Richard E. Norman purchased the complex to continue his production of “race films” (1919-1928). Norman was among the first to produce race films starring African American characters in positive, non-stereotypical roles, and the Norman Studios complex, a National Historic Landmark, is the last remaining race films studio in the nation. The NSSFM is working to reunify, restore, and reopen this historic complex as a world-class museum and thriving community education center. We encourage the participation of volunteers who support our mission and are willing to contribute. Here is a sampling of the ways that volunteers can help: docent services, facilities maintenance, social media, blogging, graphic design, research, grant writing, fundraising, and event planning. The information provided through this form will be used to help the NSSFM determine the most appropriate volunteer opportunity for you.
You will be notified of the results of the NSSFM review of your application. Further information may be requested from you at that time. Be advised that filling out the application or otherwise engaging in the application process does not guarantee that you will be approved for a NSSFM volunteer position.
