To the Friends of Norman Studios:
We are looking forward to your attendance at our next motion picture presentation at the Rita F. Reagan Set Building, Norman Studios, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 24. Westerns were a favorite of Richard Norman – indeed, half of the feature length race films that he made were Westerns. Thus, it is appropriate that this first program of the new year has a western theme. It will include a short film with Marcel Perez entitled Wild (1921). Marcel Perez was the star of the comedies made by the Eagle Film Manufacturing Company, the predecessor of Norma Studios.
The feature film of the evening will be a beautiful restoration of Sky High (1922) with Tom Mix. Tom Mix was a major and prolific Western star of the 1920s. Interestingly, in 1911 Mix made one of his earliest film appearances in St. Augustine. Another interesting fact: both Mix and Bill Pickett, the “Bull-Dogger”, were stars of the 101 Ranch Wild West Show.
Both films will be shown through the courtesy of Undercrank Productions and will feature original recorded scores by well-known silent film accompanist Ben Model. Please register for the event here. Admission is free although donations are always welcome, including a five-dollar donation for snacks.
